Goalie Drills

Goalie Drills

Goalies:  Repetition is key!  These drills will train your muscles and your mind to react quickly to incoming shots.  Repetition is the only way to fine tune movement and bring your play up to the next level.  After awhile things that seemed hard become easy, almost natural.  Repeating a movement unlocks your bodies' natural talents!  Do everything you can to improve and you will succeed.
  • Soft Hands: catch with one hand and then toss up in the air with same hand back and forth with other goalies, catch with hand closest to pass, focus on relaxing your hands, having “soft” hands
  • Shadow Drill:  both players hold onto ball, one player leads, one player follows or mirrors whatever the leading player does
  • Bounce Drill:  Bounce ball once catch and then roll out in front of you, then run to pick up your ball, turn back and repeat
  • Shuttle Drill:  One ball, form two even lines facing each other, one goalie rolls ball to opposite line and then he runs to the end of opposite line, goalie from opposite line runs to scoop up rolled ball, using soft hands and both arms, ball is scooped into chest and then rolled back in direction of opposite line, goalie that rolls ball continues to end of opposite line and so on
  • Sit up & Catch:  Goalies sit on ground in sit up position facing each other, one ball between the two goalies, as both sit up at same one tosses to the other, then back down to repeat sit up and throw, soft hands and controlled throws
  • Opposites Drill:  With goalie in the middle and three players in one line, goalie faces one player who rolls ball, scoops ball up throws it back, turns and then catches a ball throws it back and then turns to receive rolling ball and so on
  • Short Volley Drill:  1 goalie faces 2 players in a 3-person triangle, goal shuffles to one side as player volleys (softly kicks ball) to goalie, goalie squares off to ball to receive catches with soft hands and then rolls ball back to player, the quickly shuffles over to 2nd player who then volleys ball to goalie, goalie squares off & so on
